Dhaka – BNP senior leader Moudud Ahmed on Friday alleged that Awami League filed a case against their party men with a Chittagong court in connection with Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s motorcade attack with an ill-motive to divert the incident to a different direction. -UNB
“They (AL men) committed the crime. The entire nation has seen clearly through the video footages that Awami League’s armed cadres made the attack. They now filed a counter case (against BNP men) to divert the incident to a different direction. It’s their evil strategy.”
Moudud, a BNP sanding committee member, came up with the comment while speaking at a discussion arranged by Swadhinata Forum at the Jatiya Press Club.
On Thursday, a case was filed against 26 leaders and activists of BNP with the Speedy Trial Tribunal of Chittagong alleging that a vehicle of its secretary general Mirza Fakhrul’s motorcade hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on his way to Rangamati.
Earlier on Wednesday, Enamul Haq, former public prosecutor (PP) of Chittagong court and a BNP leader, filed a case with the same court accusing 26 AL men of attacking the BNP leader’s motorcade at Isakhali in Rangunia upazila, Chittagong.
Moudud censured the ruling party for filling the case, saying it is the party’s old habit to file cases against innocent people to hide their own crimes. “They filed the case to get benefit during the herring on another case filed against them.”
He said the ruling party has exposed once again their fascist face by attacking the BNP senior leaders. “This attack is tantamount to an attack on the country’s people. We can’t expect anything good from this regime anymore.”
Mentioning that the country’s people want a change in power, the BNP leader urged the government to quit taking steps for arranging a credible election under a non-party administration.
He also warned that Awami League will no longer be allowed to hold a unilateral election as it did in January-5, 2014. “BNP won’t have another alternative to launching a movement if the government doesn’t come to an understanding over holding a fair and acceptable general election.”
Moudud also called upon his party men to get ready for waging a movement to realise their demand for arranging the next polls under a non-party election-time ‘supportive’ government.
