Dhaka, Aug 14 – The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka Tuesday rejected the bail petitions of three private university students in two separate cases filed with Badda and Bhatara Police Stations. Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder of the CMM Court passed the order after lawyers for the three students submitted the three separate petitions seeking their bails in the cases.
Of the cases, Fayez Ahmed Adnan, of the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), and Aminul Ehsan Baizid, the Turag International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT), are accused in the case filed with Bhatara Police Station while AHM Khlid Reza Tonmoy is accused in the case filed with Badda Police Station.
On the contrary, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Keshab Roy Chowdhury fixed August 16 for hearing on a bail petition filed for Masad Mortuza Bin Ahab, a student of North South University, in his presence as his lawyer appealed to the court saying that his client is very sick.
Masad’s father (retired) Capt Jaki Ahab was seen in vandalism and attacking policemen during protests for safe roads was repeatedly denied bail in the last one week.
All of them appealed together for bail on August 7 and August 9 and got rejected. Four of them sought bail again on Sunday and eight others yesterday. But their prayers were turned down again.
The 22 students of East-West, North-South, Southeast and Brac universities were arrested on August 6 following clashes between students and police aided by alleged ruling party men.
A total of 41 people, including the 22, were arrested in 29 cases filed under the Penal Code over clashes in the capital during student demonstrations for road safety.
At least 20 others, including several students, were arrested in nine cases filed under section 57 of the ICT Act on charges of spreading rumours, propaganda and fake news over the protest. – Correspondent
