GAZIPUR: A police official was killed and 10 others, including three cops, were injured in a clash between locals and law enforcers when they went to catch an accused in Borogaon village under Kaliganj upazila early Saturday.The deceased was identified as Nayek Azizur Rahman, 45, son of Abdul Kuddus of Buskahon village under Phulfur thana of Mymensingh.
Witnesses said, police picked up Saidul Islam, an accused in a case filed with Kaliganj thana against some people including former Nagori UP chairman Abdul Quader for hindering Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakhya (RAJUK) in filling the earth.
Later, locals cordoned police hearing announcement through mike that dacoits attacked the village. Police fired bullets on safety ground that triggered a clash, leaving 10 injured including four cops.
Nayek Azizur Rahman died on way to hospital around 5:45am while injured cops Abu Raihan, 25, Sabbir Ahmed, 20 and another cop are now undergoing treatment at Gazipur Sadar Hospital, banglanews correspondent reports.
Local sources said huge police forces were deployed in the area after the incident. Police are conducting drives to catch the accused.
Kalaganj thana inspector (investigation) Abul Kalam Azad confirmed it to banglanews.
