Eight new political parties fail to get EC registration

Dhaka, April 27 – The applications of the eight new political parties that wanted to be registered with Election Commission (EC) have been cancelled for failing to provide necessary papers for registration in time. The political parties are Bangladesh Mangal Party, Bangladesh Poribahan Labour Party, Nakful Bangladesh, Sonar Bangla Unnayan League, Liberal Party, Bangladesh Ramkrisna Party, Oikya NAP and Muktijodha Communism Democratic Party.
EC sources said these political parties have failed to fulfill the conditions by giving necessary papers for the completion of registration within the given time of 15 days.
EC’s Assistant secretary Rowshan Ara said, “At least 75 new political parties applied for registration. During the preliminary scrutiny 19 applications were cancelled for the gap of information.”
“The rest of the 56 parties were asked to provide necessary papers by April 22. Of them eight parties failed to respond us within the designated time but the 48 parties provide necessary papers,” she added.
EC will not consider the applications of the eight parties for not responding in time, she said.
EC sources said the Commission would now assess the necessary papers in detail, reports of field visit of the offices of the remaining 48 political parties before giving them final nod for registration.
Right now EC has 40 registered political parities. Political party registration is must for taking part in the parliamentary elections.
