Dhaka, April 27 – The Gazipur district detective branch of police detained at least 45 leaders and activists of Jamaat-E-Islami including it’s Gazipur city Ameer SM Sanaullah, who had withdrawn recently his nomination paper as an Independent candidate in Gazipur City Corporation in support of BNP nominated candidate Hasan Uddin Sarker. Superintendent of Gazipur police Harun-ur-Rashid said that they were arrested on Friday morning for planning to sabotage from the Swapnachara resort at Pubail area of the city. Police also claimed that 15 petrol bombs, 4 cocktails and huge jihadi books have been recovered from their possessions. Superintendent of Gazipur police Mohammad Harun-Or-Rashid said this in a press briefing held at his office on Friday at noon.
SP Mohammad Harun-Or-Rashid said that a group of Jamaat-Shibir activists from Gazipur and surrounding area started gathering at the Swapnachara resort ( picnic spot) at Pubail area of Gazipur City on Friday morning. On a secret information, a team of district detective branch police conducted a raid in the resort and held 45 Jamaat Shibir men included Gazipur City Jamaat Ameer Professor SM Sanaullah, President of Bangladesh Shromik Kollayan Federation, Gazipur District unit Mohammed Mujahidul Islam and Gazipur city unit president Azahar Hossain Molla, former President of Gazipur District Chhatra Shibir and also present ameer of Pubail Organizing unit of Jamaat Ashraf Ali Kajol. At the time, some jihadi books included biographies of Jamaat central leaders, four cocktails, 15 petrol bombs, explosives were recovered from them.

Replying a question, police super Harun Or Rashid told the journalists that there is no connection of the arrest of Jamaat leaders and activists with Gazipur City Corporation elections. However, he also said that total eight checkposts have been set up at different points of the city for ensure a fair city corporation elections.
Meanwhile, Hasan Uddin Sarker, the BNP nominated candidate of Gazipur city corporation election have strongly condemned and protested the detention of Jamaat Shibir men . He claimed that these activists were intentionally detained from his election campaign meeting. Hassan Uddin Sarkar made the allegation during a briefing to journalists at Khailkoir area of Gazipur city on Friday morning. He demanded to create level playing field after release the detained Jamaat-Shibir men immediately. He said, it is a part of a deep conspiracy against the election. He claimed to the senior authority of the law enforcement agencies, so that the detainees are not sued in any false or fabricated case.
It is to be noted here that in the Gazipur City Corporation election, Gazipur City Jamaat Ameer Proffessor SM Sanaullah submitted his nomination paper as an Independent candidate for Mayoral post. After the decision of the 20-party alliance and on the directives of Jamaat’s high command, on April 23, he withdrew his candidacy by supporting BNP-nominated mayoral candidate Hasan Uddin Sarker and campaigned for Hasan Uddin SArker with party leaders. Among the detainees, the President of Bangladesh Shromik Kollayan Federation, Gazipur city unit Azhar Hossain Molla participated for the Vice chairman post in the last Sreepur Upazila Parishad election he was defeated by Awami League candidate with a slight margin. – Staff Reporter
