Election Commissioner speaks against negligence in UZ polls

Election Commissioner Mohammad Abu Hafiz on Wednesday warned the election officials that any kind of negligence on their part in the upazila polls would not be tolerated.
He issued the warning while speaking at a views-exchange meeting as the chief guest at the Rangpur divisional commissioner’s hall room. The meeting was arranged ahead of the fourth phase upazila election.
The election commissioner claimed that it had been possible to hold the two phases of the upazila elections fairly as people concerned played their role independently.
Hafiz said the Election Commission has postponed election in four upazilas of the district — Sadar, Pirgachha, Kaunia and Gangachhara — because of boundary problems.
He, however, said the problems would be resolved very soon.
The election commissioner also said there will be no problem if the government wants to hold the local government election politically.
Additional divisional commissioner Narayan Chandra Barma and Kazi Hasan Ahmed and regional election officer Monirul Islam also spoke at the meeting. – UNB
