Five including uncle, cousin get life term for murder

A trial court in Barisal on Wednesday afternoon sentenced five accused
including uncle and cousin of the victim to life term imprisonment and
acquitted aunt in Liton murder case of Agoiljhara upazila.
The awarded life term were  Alauddin Haoladar, uncle, Mithu Haoladar,
Mizan Haoladar, Tarikul Islam Shiplu, Tutul Haoladar, cousins and they
were also fined Tk 5,000 eadh or to suffer more three months RI.
Among them Alauddin, Shiplu and Tutul were also sentenced six more
months and fined Tk 1,000 each or to suffer three more months’ RI in
default under another section of the penal code.
Habibur Rahman, district and session judge of Barisal, handed down the
verdicts in presence of all accused except absconding Tutul after
examining 10 witnesses and other evidences.
The court acquitted Jahanara Begum, aunt of the victim, founding her
not guilty.
The prosecution story in brief was Liton of Budhar village under
Agoiljhara upazila was beaten and chopped to death by the accused
after he and his brother Tipu engaged in altercation with their aunt
Jahanara in dispute over planting a papaya tree at the courtyard of
their joint property on June 6 , 2009.
Anisur Rahman Bachchu, brother of Liton, lodged a murder case in this
connection with Agoiljhara police station on next day.
Investigation officer Sub Inspector Shihab filed charge sheet against
the six accused on September 8, 2009. -Our Correspondent
