Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) sealed off four jar-water producing factories apart from slapping a Tk 2 lakh fine on them in the city’s Mohammadpur area on Sunday.
A joint team of BSTI and Rapid Action Battalion team, led by executive magistrate Sarowar Alam, sealed off the plants as they were running business without BSTI’s approval.
The team also sentenced two people to three months’ imprisonment and fined the four establishments — KS Food and Beverage of Chand Udyan, Antar Drinking Water, Reliable Drinking Water of Dhaka Udyan and Swachchha Drinking Water of Beribadh.
