Dhaka – The government will construct four more eco-parks along river banks to protect them from encroachment and for the development of environment including recreation for the city dwellers, shipping minister Shajahan Khan has said yesterday.“The Awami League-led (AL) government is the government for development. So, people have to vote to AL again to continue the trend of country’s development,” the minister said while addressing at an inaugural function in city’s Shyampur.
The minister inaugurated Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) eco-park rides at Shyampur.
Among others, Lawmakers Syed Abu Hossain Babla and Begum Sanjida Khanam, BIWTA chairman Commodore M Mozammel Huq and managing director of Messer’s Neptune Entertainment and Amusement Company Limited Rafiqul Islam also spoke on the occasion.
Shajahan Khan also urged the people to prevent militancy and terrorism unitedly.
Messer’s Neptune Entertainment and Amusement Company Limited has get the responsibility to run the rides eco-park for five years.
They have to renew their licence annually and BIWTA to get Tk 28 lakh as licence fee annually. The private company has already installed 22 rides at the park. The gate money fixed at Tk 30 and separate fees to be paid for rides.
The BIWTA reclaimed 6.684 acres of land in 2011 through eviction. They also planted different varieties of 1500 trees and flowers on it.
It is known as ‘Buriganga Eco-park’. – Staff Reporter
