GD filed over assault on journos by cops

Dhaka – A general diary (GD) was filed with Shahbagh Police Station on Thursday night in connection with the assault on two journalists by police during the shutdown enforced by National Committee to Protect Oil-Gas, Natural Resources and Power-Port on Thursday.
The National Committee enforced the half-day hartal in the capital demanding cancellation of the Rampal power plant near the Sundarbans.
Staff reporter Ehsan Bin Didar and cameraperson Abdul Alim of ATN News were injured as a group of policemen, including assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Ershad Mondal of Shahbagh Police Station, assaulted them while performing their professional duty at the gate of Shahbagh Police Station.
Contacted, officer-in-charge of the police station Abu Bakar Siddique said Mosharraf Alam Siddique, deputy manager of ATN News, registered the GD against four policemen, including ASI Ershad, on Thursday night.
The four cops were identified scrutinising video footages of the assault incident.
Of them, ASI Ershad has already been suspended, the OC said, adding that the Public Order Management Division will take action against the three other constables as they are not under Shahbagh Police Station.
A three-member probe committee was also formed by the Ramna Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police to look into the incident. -UNB
