Gen (retd) Mahbub alleges Int’l conspiracy in Hill Districts

DHAKA – BNP standing committee member Lt Gen (Retd) Mahbubur Rahman on Sunday said national and international conspiracy is being hatched with the hill tracts and he called the political parties to face the conspiracy.
“Local and international conspiracies, the activities of non-government organisations and the intention of taking political mileage by political parties over the CHT-conflict are the main reasons behind the worsening situation in the region,” he said while addressing a discussion meeting at the National Press Club on the state of the hill tracts, he alleged that the hill tracts peace accord was not implemented properly.
The BNP leader noted that the CHT is a place of great national interest for its immense resources, economic potential and tourism.
The meeting organised jointly by Parbattya Gano Parishad and Monthly Deshjagat was held with its Jamal Uddin Chowdhuy Alamgir in the chair.
Mahbubur Rahman said the hill tracts are still unstable since the treaty was not done considering all aspects.
He said irrespective of hilly and Bangalee, the identify of the people living in the hill tracts should be Bangladeshi.
The BNP leader appreciated the peace accord saying that the greatest mistake after the independence was introducing Bangalee nationalism.
He said the military presence in the in the hill tracts is necessary in the greater interest of the nation. “The men in uniform have never violated human rights in the CHT,” he added.
BNP chairperson’s adviser Maj Gen (Retd) Ruhul Amin Chowdhury, Kallayan Party chairman Maj Gen (Retd) Syed Muhammad Ibrahim, Suranjan Ghosh and poet Abdul Hye Shikder, among others, addressed the function.
