Govt not sincere about dialogue: Moudud

BNP standing committee member Moudud Ahmed on Monday alleged that the government is not at all sincere about dialogue as it is drumming up the issue just to make the foreigners happy.“The government is not at all sincere about dialogue though it’s frequently talking about it. Now they (govt) are uttering dialogue repeatedly only to appease the foreigners and mislead people,“ he said.

The BNP leader came up with the allegation while addressing a discussion at the National Press Club. Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sanskritik Gabeshana Parishad arranged the programme, titled ‘Responsibilities of the Nationalist Forces to Overcome the Ongoing Political Crisis’.

Moudud said, “We’re in favour of talks. On one hand, the government is telling the forefingers about dialogue and arresting opposition leaders in false cases and raiding their houses on the other. They’re also not allowing us to hold a rally in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan central office. The government’s contradictory acts prove it’s not serious about the talks.”

Mentioning that it is the responsibility of the government to create an atmosphere for talks, the former law minister said his party is ready to sit in a dialogue any time either in parliament or outside of it if the government sends its offer specifying the agenda.

He suggested the government create an atmosphere conducive to talks through releasing the opposition leaders and activists and withdrawing the “false” cases against them. (Source: UNB)
