Govt. to build ship building at Barguna: Shahjahan

The government has decided for building a ship building and re-cycling zone in Barguna, shipping minister Shajahan Khan said yesterday.“I will visit Barguna next month to select the site. Most of the people of the southern region are jobless because of continuous natural disaster like cyclone. So, the government has decided for setting up industrial units in this are centering Paira Sea Port,” the minister said while exchanging views with the leader of Shipping Reporters Forum Bangladesh (SRFB) at the secretariat.
Among others, president of SRFB Timir Dutta, SRFB former president Anisur Rahman Khan, vice president Faruk Khan, general secretary Kazi Emdad Uddin Jabel, joint secretaries Gazi Shah Newaz, Tariqul Islam Sumon, organizing secretary Tauhidul Islam, treasurer Mahmud Akash, office and publicity secretary Ratan Balo, executive members Mohsinul Karim Lebu and Afrin Jahan attended the meeting.
“There will be massive change after completion the Paira sea port. Various structures would be constructed which would help to reduce natural disasters. Besides, the livelihood of the areas will increase after installation of industrial units including garment factories,” Shajahan Khan said.
Terming river as life of the country, the minister said, “The present government has taken various steps to restore the countries river including its navigability.”
Most of the dredgers are deployed at Mongla-Ghasiakhali channel to restore it as its is very important protocol route between Bangladesh and India, he added.
