Government Railway Police (GRP) filed a case with Bonarpara Railway Thana (BRT) in Gaibandha against the miscreants for sabotage on the railway at Buringi area district on Wednesday.
Sub inspector Hamidul Haque lodged the case with the thana accusing as many as 105 miscreants. In the case, some 80 were identified with names and the rest 25 remained unnamed, said Saidur Rahman, officer in charge of the thana.
Of the accused, two miscreants-Saddam Hossan and Dulu Miah were also held by the locals just after the incident and they were handed over to the police for their alleged act of sabotage and sent them to the jail on the same day, he said.
Police said the engine and three compartments of a Shantahar bound Padmaragh Train from Lalmonirhat was derailed at Buringi, a place between Bonarapara and Mohamaganj stations of the district on Wednesday at around 1.15 am as the miscreants removed fishplates.
Due to the derailment, at least three passengers including a woman were killed and 40 others injured, said deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defense, Gaibandha Kobad Ali who led the rescue operation.
A 6-member probe committee headed by divisional traffic superintendent M. Mostafizur Rahman was formed to investigate into the incident, said Mahmudul Haque Bakshi, divisional railway manager of Lalmonirhat Rail Division.
Besides, the district administration also formed a 3-member probe committee headed by additional district magistrate Kamal Uddin Biswas to find the reason behind the accident and they were asked to submit the investigation report within seven days, said deputy commissioner M.
