Hannan Shah placed under police remand

A court of Dhaka on Tuesday placed BNP Standing Committee member retired Brig Gen ASM Hannan Shah on a two-day remand in a case filed with Bhatara Police Station of the city in connection with vehicle torching.Metropolitan Magistrate Tareq Mainul Islam Bhuiyan of Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court passed the order when the Investigation Officer of the case Bhatara PS Sub-inspector Ekramul Haque  produced the BNP leader to the court in the afternoon, seeking a 10-day remand to interrogate about the incident
Plainclothes police detained Hannan Shah  from the city’s Baridhara area on Monday at night.
Later, he was shown arrested in the case filed for torching a vehicle on October 26.
On behalf of the accused among others advocates Sanaullah Mia, Abed Reza, Masud Ahmed Talukder, Borhan Uddin, Golam Mostafa, Iqbal Hossain, Abul Khair, Emdadul Haque Lal and Mohsian Mia made submissions seeking bail of Hannan Shah rejecting the remand plea of the prosecution.
They told the court that Hannah Shah’s is not included in the First Information Report (FIR) of the case. Besides, all other accused of the case already secured bail from the court. Hannan Shah was shown arrested in the case for political reasons to control the present anti-Government agitation of the country. The sections of the case filed against Hannan Shah are bail-able, they added.
Hannan Shah himself also made a submission with the permission of the court. He apprised the court that he appeared to another court a day before, on Monday and he was in front of the police.  He said, like the judges the Government also say that the judiciary is independent. Appreciating the role of the judiciary he told the court that he has belief on is role it. About his bail and remand plea of prosecution he said he depends on the conscience of the court and expected a just decision from the court. – Court Correspondent
