SC Chowdhury’s lawyer Fakhrul sent to jail

A court of Dhaka on Tuesday sent war crimes convict Salauddin Quader Chowdhuty’s lawyer Barrister AKM Fakhrul Islam to jail in a case filed for his alleged involvement in the leakage of the draft verdict against his client. Magistrate Md Emdadul Haque of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the order when Investigation Officer of the case M Habib Hossain produced him to the court after remand.
On Monday, a bench of the High Court Division comprising Justice Sheikh Hasan Arif and Justice Mostafa Zaman Islam  stayed a remand order passed by a lower court against Barrister Fakhrul.
Earlier, on Sunday, a Dhaka court had placed Fakhrul on a four-day remand in the case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) Police arrested Fakhrul on Wednesday at his Kakrail chamber in the capital in connection with the leakage of draft verdict of International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) against war criminal Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, a BNP MP.
DB Police arrested two ICT employees in this connection on October 4 and they were placed on remand. They made confessional statements admitting their involvement in the leakage on October 10 under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
The ICT-1 awarded death sentence to BNP lawmaker SQ Chowdhuy for his involvement in crimes against humanity during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971, on October 1. – Court Correspondent
