HC asks court to resolve Humayun Azad case in 6 months

The High Court on Thursday asked the designated trial court to dispose of, within six months, the case filed for attempting to kill Professor Humayun Azad of Dhaka University.   Passing the order, an HC division bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Mohammad Ullah also asked the assigned public prosecutor to produce its witnesses for testifying against the accused before the trial court. Besides, the HC granted bail to under trial prisoner Mizanur Rahman Minhaz, who was shown arrested on May 23, 2006, in connection with the case.   A decade ago, on February 27 in 2004, miscreants hit Prof Humayun Azad, a noted writer, by sharp weapons when he was waiting in front of the Atomic Energy Commission to catch a rickshaw for home from Bangla Academy Ekushey Boi Mela.   The same year, in Auugust, Humayun Azad went to Germany to attend a conference and died there later.   Advocate AN Muntakim appeared for accused Minhaz while assistant attorney general Gazi Mamunur Rashid stood for the government. – UNB
