A court here on Friday sent managing director of Ideal Cooperatives Ltd (ICL) HNM Shafiqur Rahman to jail in a case filed for embezzling Tk 84.50 lakh. Senior Judicial Magistrate Shafiqul Islam passed the order when police produced him before his court at noon.
Earlier on Thursday afternoon, police arrested Shafiqur from the Sadar South registry office. Bashir Ahmed of Bamisha in Sadar South upazila filed the case with Sadar South Police Station on Tuesday, said Inspector (investigation) Abdul Mannan.
He also said there were warrants for the arrest of Shafiqur in three more cases -– two filed with Sadar South police and the other with Chouddagram. Meanwhile, Shafiqur’s lawyer M Shahjahan Lincoln said his client is on High Court bail in three cases. His other lawyer Syed Abdullah Pintu said Bashir reached a compromise with his client.
However, the court did not grant him bail as he was accused in other case filed with Chouddagram police, he said, adding that the court fixed Sunday for next hearing. -UNB
