The Road Transport and Bridges Ministry on Sunday claimed that the report of Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity stating that a total of 339 people were killed in road accidents across the country during the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays was not authentic.
As per the records of different district level offices of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), police, government and private hospitals, 152 people were killed and 355 injured in 103 road accidents from June 12 to 24 across the country, the ministry said in a handout.
“Jatri Kalyan Samity, which is an unregistered organisation, has been providing confusing information from time to time. It invites many respected people to their press conferences and presents exaggerated information over road accidents with a motive,” the handout said.
The ministry urged people not to get confused with the wrong information of Jatri Kalyan Samity.
On June 29, Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity, a passengers’ welfare platform, came up with the statistics at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU).
