JCD leader killed as bus hits Kh Mosharraf’s motorcade

Dhaka, June 19 – A Shaymoli Paribahan bus hit four smaller vehicles in Amirabad area on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway on Tuesday, killing a leader of the opposition BNP’s student front. The victim is Jewel Miah, 19, son of late Sadek Miah Prodhan of Sonarchar village and a leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, who appeared in the higher secondary certificate (HSC) examinations from Hassanpur Shahid Degree College.
Twelve more people were injured in the incident that took place at noon when the Dhaka-bound bus of the private sector Shaymoli Paribahan service knocked down four cars and microbuses, according to JCD leaders and local sources.
The former minister, BNP standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain was in the motorcade of nine vehicles on way to a wedding party.
Of the injured people, Zahid Hossain, Sabbir Hossain, Rifat Hossain, Al-Amin, Delwar Hossain, Imran Hossain, and Mazharul Islam have been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Their conditions were said to be critical.
“Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain escaped the accident,” said Shamsuddin Didar, a member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson’s media wing.
The police seized the bus but the driver fled the scene, said officer-in-charge of the Daudkandi highway police station Abul Kalam Azad.
The BNP leader went to see the injured persons admitted at Daudkandi Upazila Health Complex. He later joined the namaz-e-janaza of Jewel.
