Dhaka – US Secretary of State John Kerry has conveyed the importance of major parties in Bangladesh to come together on a way forward for elections that are free, fair, and credible in the eyes of the people of Bangladesh.“Sure. Well, he did speak with Hasina (Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina) about current events in Bangladesh. We have – part of the discussion was conveying the importance of major parties coming together on a way forward for elections that are free, fair, and credible in the eyes of the Bangladeshi people,” Jen Psaki, Spokesperson of the US State Department, told a regular briefing in Washington on December 11.
The Spokesperson, in response to a question, also said, “So they discussed a range of topics, and certainly that was a big focus of the message the Secretary conveyed.”
Jen Psaki said Secretary Kerry welcomed the visit of UN Assistant Secretary General Oscar Fernandez-Taranco to Dhaka, where he had meeting with both parties to encourage a peaceful way forward. – UNB
