Life term for killing wife

A tribunal in Rajshahi on Thursday convicted a man and sentenced him to life term

imprisonment for killing his wife in 2006.

The convict identified as SM Foyzul Islam Palash, son of Abbas Shah of Atra upazila in

Naogaon district, was tried in absentia.

According to the prosecution, Nahida Akter Rima, 22, daughter of Syed Abdur Rashid

of Sadar upazila in Natore district, married Palash in 2006 without the consent of her

parents.

She used to reside at Arkid Hostel, a boarding house of female students, in the city.

On July 29, 2006, Palash called him to a local residential hotel where he strangled Rima

and fled the scene after putting the hotel room under lock and key.

Police recovered the body next day.

Abdur Rashid, father of Rima, filed a case with Rajpara Police Station on July 31.

After examining records and witnesses, Judge Shamsul Alam Khan of the Speedy Trail

Tribunal- Rajshahi handed down the verdict.  -UNB
