Luis I Kahn’s Parliament Bhaban master plan given archive

Dhaka, Jan 27 (UNB) – Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Sunday handed the copies of the master plan of Jatiya Sangsad Complex and its surrounding related areas, designed by famous American architect Louis I Kahn, to the National Archives of Bangladesh and the Department of Architecture.

Director General of National Archives Dilip Kumar Saha and Chief Architect of the Department of Architecture Kazi Golam Nasir, on behalf of their respective agency, received the master plan from the Speaker.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Shirin said the design of Louis Isadore Kahn is the asset not only for Bangladesh but also the whole world.

She urged all the authorities concerned to preserve Kahn’s main design sincerely.

Whips Atikur Rahman Atik and Iqbalur Rahim, and Parliament Senior Secretary Dr Zafar Ahmed Khan were, among others, present on the occasion, said a Parliament Secretariat handout.

The main design of Bangladesh Parliament Complex and its surrounding areas located in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, was collected from the archive of Pennsylvania of State University, USA, in 2016.

The main set of the master plan reached the Parliament Secretariat on December 1, 2016.
