Mahmudur Rahman walks to the jail

A Dhaka court on Monday sent Amar Desh Acting Editor Mahmudur Rahman to jail in a case filed in connection with a plot to ‘abduct and kill’ Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy.  Magistrate Maruf Hossain of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the order when police produced the Amar Desh Acting Editor to the court on completion of his second five-day remand in the case. Earlier, a court on May 4 placed Mahmudur Rahman on a five-day remand afresh in the case.   The case was filed with Paltan Police Station on August 03, 2015 for attempt to abduct and kill Joy, who is also the Information Communication Technology Adviser of the Prime Minister. On April 18, Mahmudur Rahman was shown arrested in this case.   Police arrested Mahmudur Rahman from his Karwan Bazar office on April 11, 2013.  On April 16, plainclothes detectives arrested veteran journalist Shafik Rehman from his house in the city’s Eskaton area he was also placed on a total of 10 days remand in the same case.
