A suspected mugger was killed in police firing in the city’s Agargaon area on Saturday night.Police said sub-inspector Rakib along with his team was paroling the area riding two rickshaws in plainclothes since evening.
Around 9:00 pm, they said, three muggers swooped on SI Rakib’s rickshaw and tried to snatch his valuables.
When SI Rakib challenged them, the muggers set off a cocktail targeting the law enforcers. The law enforcers then fired gunshots, leaving two of the muggers injured.
Later, another SI, Mohsin, took one of the unidentified injured to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. Two other suspected muggers fled the scene, according to the police.
