Morshed Khan, 2 others granted bail

A Dhaka court on Wednesday granted bail to BNP Vice-Chairman M Morshed Khan, his wife Nasrin Khan and son Faisal Morshed Khan in a money laundering case.
Metropolitan Magistrate Atiqur Rahman of Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court passed the order after Morshed Khan, a former Foreign Minister of the country surrendered to the court.
The court passed the bail order on a bond of Tk 50,000 after hearing on the bail petition was concluded at about 4 pm.On Jan 01, the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Director Md Moniruzzaman Khan filed the case against three people including former foreign minister Morshed Khan for allegedly laundering money. The case statement says that the case was filed for laundering with $ 3 crore 95 lakh 62 thousand 540 US dollar and Hongkog dollar of one crore 36 lakh 45 thousand 583, a total of Tk 321 crore 7 lakh 53 thousand 359 abroad.
It was alleged that a total of Tk 321 crore 7 lakh 53 thousand 359 was laundered abroad through Morshed’s organization Fareast Telecom Limited using various kinds of 11bank accounts. However, Khan’s counsel categorically denied the charge of money laundering. He further said neither Morshed Khan nor any member of his family laundered any money abroad.
He was a minister of BNP government from 2001-2006. Advocate Shah Monirul Haque appeared to the court on behalf of Morshed Khan while Advocate Mosharraf Hossain Kajal represented the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC). – Court Correspondent
