New BGB sector, two battalions launched

A new sector and two battalions of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have started journey in Cox’s Bazar and Khagrachhari districts to ensure better border management.BGB Director General Major General Aziz Ahmed inaugurated BGB Battalion-50 in Ramu of Cox’s Bazar through hoisting its flag on Sunday.
Among others, BGB southeast region commander Brig Gen Ali Mortaza Khan, BGB Chittagong Sector Commander Col Md Nazrul Islam and military and civil officials were present on the occasion.
Earlier on Saturday, the director general of the paramilitary force inaugurated newly formed BGB Goimara Sector at Ramgarh and BGB Battalion-51 at Panchhari in Khagrachhari district.
The government took a plan to set up two sector headquarters and three battalion headquarters of BGB in the Chittagong Hill Tracts to protect the frontiers along the hilly areas.
Another BGB sector has already been opened in Bandarban.
On January 20 this year, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally inaugurated the newly established four regional headquarters of BGB at a function in the BGB Headquarters aimed at ensuring better border management.
The Regional Headquarters of the BGB were set up in Rangpur, Jessore, Sarail of Brahmanbaria and Chittagong as part of the ongoing reform programmes of the paramilitary force.
Besides, ‘Rifle Security Unit’ was renamed as ‘Border Security Bureau,’ and the former ‘Signal Battalion’ as ‘Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Battalion’. UNB
