Obaidul Quader visits CPB office

Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Tuesday visited the office of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) in the city’s Old Paltan area.

“Obaidul Quader went to our party’s office at Mukti Bhaban around 11am and exchanged greetings with our party leaders present there,” CPB central committee member Ruhin Hossain Prince told UNB.

He said Awami League general secretary stayed there for over 15-20 minutes and talked to CPB general secretary M Shah Alam and other party central leaders.

Prince said Quader came to their office to pay a courtesy call with its leaders. “It’s not a scheduled meeting. He (Quader) said he will also visit the offices of some other parties.”

During the brief conversation, the CPB leader said their party general secretary told Quader that they launched a platform of eight left parties to strengthen the alternative political force against bad politics.

“Our general secretary also informed Quader that our party and alliance will observe various programmes on the streets to establish people’s rights instated of joining any alliance led by Awami League and BNP,” Prince added.

Contacted, CPB President Mujahidul Islam Selim said he was not there at the meeting as he was busy with a party programme. “I’m now going to office and will talk to our leaders about it.”

On July 22, eight parties–Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD), Bangladesher Biplobi Workers Party, Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (Marxist), Gana Sanghati Andalon, Bangladesher United Communist League, Ganatantrik Biplobi Party and Bangladesher Samajtantrik Andalon–launched a new platform styled “Left Democratic Alliance.

The alliance leaders said no election will be free and fair under the current regime, and they launched the new platform to wage a movement against farcical polls.

They also said it will not be possible to ensure a level-playing field if the current parliament which lacks people’s mandate is not dissolved.
