OC, SI among 9 sued for ‘torturing’ lawyer

A case was filed against nine people, including officer-in-charge (OC) and sub-inspector (SI) of Mirpur Police Station in the capital on Thursday for allegedly torturing a lawyer for issuing an order to grab his land at Mirpur Barbagh.   The victim, advocate Sheikh Abdul Wahid, filed the case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka.   After hearing, metropolitan magistrate Hasibul Haque ordered a judicial inquiry into the case.   According to the case statement, lawyer Sheikh Abdul Wahid was beat up in the house of a retired police officer, Abul Latif, at Borobagh on September 2 this year to capture Wahid’s four decimals of land.   It said the accused, including the OC of Mirpur PS Salauddin and SI Chhanwar Hossain, were behind the alleged torture.   During the reported ordeal, Latif also pressed a pistol at Wahid’s head and forced him to give an undertaking. – UNB
