Oli aquitted of ACC cases

A Dhaka court on Thursday discharged Liberal Democratic Party Chief Col (Retd) Oli Ahmed MP in a case, the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) filed against him for alleged non submission statement about his wealth.Judge Mohammad Mozammel Haque of Dhaka’s Special Judge Court-2 passed the order in presence of the lawmaker following a decision of the High court passed about six years back in 2007.
On February 24, 1998, the then Bureau of Anti Corruption issued a notice against Oli and his wife asking a detail list of their tangible wealth within the next 45 days.
Later, they filed a writ petition with the High Court against the notice and the High Court declared the notice illegal in 2007. Following the writ plea, the High Court ruled the notice as illegal.
On November 28, 2011, Deputy Director of Anti Corruption Commission, Golam Mostafa, filed a case with the capital’s Ramna Police Station against Oli Ahmed for not submitting wealth statement and the investigation officer (IO) of the case submitted charge sheet in the case on March 14, 2012.
Later the case was transferred to different courts including  Dhaka CMM Court, Dhaka’s Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court, and lastly the Special Judge Court-2 of Dhaka during the trial process. – Court correspondent
