Pakistan, Spanish envoys, UNDP RR meet Speaker

Pakistan High Commissioner in Dhaka Afrasiab Mehdi Hashmi Qureshi and Spanish envoy Luis Tejada on Tuesday met Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhdury separately and discussed bilateral issues.UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Bangladesh Neal Walker also met the Speaker at her Parliament office.
During the meeting with Pakistan envoy, Shirin Sharmin discussed issues relating to trade and investment between the two countries.
They laid emphasis on arranging fairs for displaying products, especially produced by women entrepreneurs, for boosting trade between the two countries.
During the meeting with Spanish envoy, the Speaker discussed issues like women’s empowerment, climate change and poverty reduction and other development issues.
Luis Tejada appreciated Bangladesh’s efforts in empowering women and said the country achieved laudable success in women’s empowerment and development.
The envoy assured Bangladesh of Spain’s continued support for its socioeconomic development.
During the meeting with Neal Walker, they discussed activities of the Parliament and other bilateral issues.
Speaker mentioned that the opposition actively participated in the budget session and hoped that Bangladesh’s parliamentary democracy would flourish and advance further with the active participation of opposition and ruling parties.
Neal Walker assured the Speaker of UNDP support for strengthening Parliament.
