Juba League leader held for house that caved in lake killing 12

The owner of the two-storied bamboo-made house that subsided into the Mirhajirbagh Jheel killing 12 dead and leaving many others injured hsa been arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) – 3.

Maniruzzaman Chowdhury (38) the said owner has been arrested from Tipra Bazaar, Nischintapur, Comilla. The tin-shed illegal structure sank under water at Jhilparh Boubazar, in Malibagh Chowdhurypara area on 15 April last.
The tin-hut stood on bamboo poles at the side of a hyacinth-filled lake at Hajiparha’s Jheelpar.
Monir has been on the run since.
Tenants who survived the accident confirmed that the local Juba League leader had constructed the temporary two-stories house and rented it.
Police charged him in a case over the deaths a day after the accident.
