The verdicts in two separate cases centering the inhuman torture leading to death of 13-year-old Rajon in Sylhet and 12-year-old Rakib in Khulna barely a month apart earlier in the year, will be delivered today. On October 27, Sylhet Metropolitan Session’s Judge Akbar Hossain Mridha fixed tomorrow (Sunday) for delivering the verdict in the Rajon murder case, upon completion of arguments by each side in the case.

According to the case record, Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon was brutally tortured to death over an unfounded suspicion of theft at Sundar Ali Market in Kumargaon area of Sylhet city on July 8.

The killers themselves videoed the macabre incident, and the video clip went viral on social networking site Facebook and video-sharing site Youtube within days of being uploaded.

On August 16, the investigation officer of the case submitted a charge sheet accusing 13 people before the court in Sylhet. The accused are Kamrul Islam, son of late Abdul Malek of Kumargaon Sheikhpara in Sylhet Sadar upazila, his brother Muhit Alam, Ali Haidar alias Ali, Shamim Alam, Pavel Islam, Moyna Miah alias Bara Moyna, Nur Ahmed alias Nur Miah, Dulal Ahmed, Ayaz Ali, Taj Uddin Badal, Firoz Maih, Asmot Ali alias Asmot Ullah and Ruhul Amin alias Ruhel.

Although principal accused Kamrul managed to flee the country for Saudi Arabia with alleged help of the police, the Bangladeshi expatriate community in Jeddah managed to nab him and he was placed in custody by Jeddah police.
