RCC mayoral candidates pledge development

Three candidates vying for the mayoral post in upcoming election of
Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) have expressed their commitment of
development of the metropolis if they were elected.
Facing the public and responding to their various questions they
expressed their commitment of working collectively for uplifting the
city.
Sushashoner Jonno Nagorik (SUJON) organized the programme held at
Safawang Community Centre here on Tuesday afternoon in association
with District Loko Morcha and Bangladesh Livestock Society. Dr Badiul
Alam Mazumder, General Secretary of SUJON, moderated the session.
“In the past when I was Mayor of RCC, my great achievement was to
bring pipeline-based gas to the city. It was one of my major election
manifestos. I have done it even at the last stage.  I am proud of it,”
said AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, former mayor and one of the candidates in
the election.
He added that only five-year tenure isn’t sufficient to build Rajshahi
as a modern and planned city. For this, he said:
“I need at least another more term. So, I am contesting in the
election. If the public wish I will continue my development pace”.
Another mayoral candidate Mosaddeque Hossain Bulbul says transforming
Rajshahi into a modern city is his main motto to contest in the
election.
Besides, he added that the unemployed youths would be built as skilled
human resources after establishing an IT village for them. “The youths
will be protected from the drug addiction through improving and
enriching the sports arena,” he said.
Habibur Rahman, other mayoral candidate also addressed the meeting
saying he would put all his efforts to uplift the city if he is
elected.
Earlier, in a press conference held at the same venue, Dr Badiul Alam
Mazumder gave all information of the candidates contesting in the RCC
election.
