Indian President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday said Bangladesh-India relations were elevated to a whole new paradigm with the visit of the Bangladesh Prime Minister to New Delhi in 2010 and the subsequent visit by the Indian Prime Minister to Dhaka in 2011.
He mentioned that India was fully committed to resolving not only the outstanding issues such Land Boundary Agreement and Teesta River Water Sharing, but also other issues to take the bilateral relations to a newer height.The Indian President made the remarks when newly appointed Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Syed Muazzem Ali presented his credentials to him at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi, according to Foreign Ministry in Dhaka.
Pranab Mukherjee expressed his gratitude for the cooperation extended by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Bangladesh government for the elimination of the scourge of terrorism in the region.
He also expressed satisfaction at the growth of trade and economic ties and hoped that bilateral trade exchange would cross $ 6 billion mark.
Mukherjee also mentioned that India, being fully appreciative of the trade imbalance between the two countries, has already instituted measures to reduce the gap.
In his reply, Bangladesh High Commissioner conveyed greetings from Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and iterated the Bangladesh government’s firm desire to further expand and to further consolidate the bilateral ties.
He also mentioned that Bangladesh was looking forward to the early resolution of LBA and Teesta issues.
Syed Muazzem Ali also iterated the Bangladesh government’s resolve for the elimination of all forms of terrorism in Bangladesh and in the region. – UNB
