‘Ringleader’ killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘shootout’

The ringleader of a robber gang was killed in a ‘shootout’ with police at Adhargona village of Moheskhali upazila early Tuesday.The deceased was identified as Delawar,25,

Additional superintendent of police of Cox’s Bazar M Babul Akhter said Delwar along with his 20-25 associates had been committing robbery in different shrimp enclosures of three upazilas–Moheskhali, Kutubdia and Chokori–for long.

On secret information that Delawar along with his team was staying at Adhargona village in Moheskhali upazila, a team of police led by Babul Akhter conducted a drive in the area at about 2.30am.

Sensing the presence of the police team, Delwar and his associates started firing on the law enforcers, who also retaliated by shooting fire that triggered a gunfight.

Delwar was caught in the line of fire and died.

The cohorts of Delwar got away after the gunfight that continued for half an hour.

The police team also recovered three LGs, 38 rounds of bullet and one machete from the spot.

Delwar was wanted by police in five murder cases, added Babul Akhter.
