Joypurhat – A suspected robber was injured in a ‘gunfight’ between his cohorts and police at Pakarmatha Bridge area on Joypurhat-Akkelpur road in Sadar upazila early Tuesday.The injured was identified as Saju, a leader of an inter-district robber gang and son of Asad Ali, a resident of Singra village in Natore district.Ashok Kumar Pal, assistant superintendent of Joypurhat police, said on a tip-off that A gang were preparing to commit robbery in the area, a team of police conducted a drive there at about 1:30am.Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the robber gang opened fire at them, prompting them to fire back that triggered a gunfight.The gunfight left Saju injured with bullet while other members of his gang managed to escape.Saju was admitted to Joypurhat Adhunik Hospital under police custody. Saju was wanted in several cases for robbery filed with different police stations, the ASP added. (UNB)
