Rokeya university VC resigning

Vice-Chancellor of Rangpur’s Begum Rokeya University Prof AKM Nurun Nabi has decided to resign amid calls by teachers.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday evening, he said he would also notify the authorities in writing of his decision very soon.
Nabi had come out of his office early on Sunday after teachers who had kept him under siege for the last five days called it off. But later in the afternoon, 338 officials and staff who were fired recently besieged him in his office from 3pm.
At 6pm, the VC told bdnews24.com: “It is not possible for me to do my job independently amid all this chaos and confusion. I had taken up the job with high hopes, made progresses in the university’s development in past five months.
“But a quarter is unnecessarily creating disorder as it does not want that to continue.”
He also asked the people of Rangpur to forgive him.
After the sacked officials and staff, under the banner of Pragatishl Karmakarta-Karmachari Oikya Parishad, confined him to his office from 3pm, the platform’s spokesperson Executive Engineer Jahangir Alam told bdnews24.com: “The protests will be called off only after the Vice-Chancellor promises to give us back our jobs.” – bdnews24.com
