Sayedee appeal hearing begins

Hearing on the appeal for Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee has begun after the Appellate Division bench rejected a defence plea requesting more time.
The plea requesting three more weeks was scrapped by the five-justice bench headed by Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain.
Sayedee’s lawyer Barrister Abdur Razzaq began to present his argument after the bench ordered the hearing to begin on Tuesday.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam, Additional Attorney General MK Rahman and Md Momtajuddin Fakir were present on behalf of the state.
The Supreme Court on Jul 30 had fixed Sayedee’s appeal hearing on Sept 17 but the bench ‘passed it over’ on that day.
The International Crimes Tribunal-1 sentenced Jamaat’s Executive Council member Delwar Hossain Sayedee to death on Feb 28.
Of the 20 charges brought against Sayedee, he was sentenced to death on two charges – for murder of Ibrahim Kutti and Bisabali and for torching Hindu households during 1971.
On Oct 3, 2011, Sayadee was arrested and brought before the tribunal for the first time on Nov 2, 2010.
The prosecution’s appeal pleads for punishments under six other charges and also full justice for the 12 charges Sayedee was acquitted from.
Sayedee on the other hand requests the Supreme Court to acquit him of all the charges.
This very bench rejected the appeal by Jamaat acting secretary general Abdul Quader Molla who was sentenced to life imprisonment by ICT and
sentenced him to death on Sept 17. – bdnews24.com
