A trial court in Barisal Monday sentenced Sheikh Mukituzzaman Rony, a
leader of the BCL city committee, to 17 years imprisonment under arms
act.
Md. Habibur Rahman, judge of the special tribunal, handed down this
verdict under two different sub-sections of section 19 of arms act
after examining 10 witnesses and other evidences.
Prosecution story in brief was Sheikh Mukituzzaman Rony, 28, and his
friend Shahadat Hossain Sourav, 35, arrested by a patrol team of RAB
on July 17, 2012 night during suspiciously roaming in Raza Bahadur
Road area of the city and recovered one pistol with 5-round bullets
from Rony.
Abubakar Siddik, deputy assistant director RAB, as complainant lodged
a case against them with Kotwali police station on the same night.
Later Sub Inspector Mukul filed charge sheet against Rony acquitting
Shahadat on August 7 on the same year.
