SC refuses to drop ACC case against Zubaida

Dhaka – The High Court Division of the Supreme Court yesterday (Wednesday) rejected the petition of Dr Zubaida Rahman, wife of BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman, to drop a case filed against her by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC). A High Court bench of Justice Obaidul Hossain and Justice Krishna Debnath directed Dr Zubaida to appear before the concerned court within eight weeks.
Later, ACC lawyer Khurshed Alam Khan said the apex court decision has removed all obstacles and clears the way to start the trial process in the case. Senior Lawyer AJ Mohammed Ali and advocate Kaiser Kamal moved the case in the court on behalf of Zubaida Rahman. A physician by profession, Zubaida has been living in London with her husband Tarique Rahman.
This case was filed with Kafrul Police Station of the city on September 26, 2007, accusing Tarique, Zubaida and her mother Iqbal Mund Bano of concealing information about their wealth and providing false information regarding their wealth worth Taka 48.15 million.
