The local administration imposed Section 144 in Kanaighat upazila
headquarters as Awami League-backed two groups called their programmes
at the same venue and same time for Tuesday.The restriction will remain in force for an indefinite period from 10am today.
Local people said a group of people under the banner of ‘Amra
Muktijoddha Santan’ on Monday announced to hold a meeting in the
upazila headquarters at 3pm for today (Tuesday), demanding the removal
of UNO SM Sohrab Hossain.
Another group under the banner of ‘Bangabandhu Adarsha Bastabayan
Parishad’ later declared their meeting at the same venue and same
time, protesting the anarchic activities of Hefajat-e-Islam.
The announcement of the two group’s programme caused tension in the area.
UNO SM Sohrab Hossain on Monday night slapped the restriction in order
to maintain law and order in the area.
