Shahbagh Ganajagaran Manch dismantled

Police have torn down the Ganajagaran Manch at Shahbagh which has been demanding capital punishment for the war criminals.”Police asked us to evacuate the Prajanma Chattar about 2am and started to dismantle the media cell and other tents here at around 5am Monday,” Maruf Rasool, one of the organisers of the Manch, told bdnews24.com.
“First they took us all outside the barricade. Then they tore down the main stage, media cell and other camps. The whole area is empty now,” he said.
He said the police action came without notice.
“All the Mancha organisations are coming here to decide the next course of action,” he added.
The Shahbagh-centred youth-led civil uprising began on Feb 5 when a war crimes tribunal handed down Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Abdul Quader Molla life in prison sentence.
The ‘lenient’ sentence sparked off a wave of anger and frustration, drawing people to Shahbagh to form mass protests continuing to date.
The protest struck a popular public chord and galvanised tens of people into putting up unprecedented show of support, with Ganajagaran Manch replicated in districts and divisions.
