Suspended BNP-backed Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Mayor Mohammad Moniruzzaman Moni was freed from jail on bail on Monday.The suspended KCC mayor walked out of the Khulna district jail in the afternoon after his release order reached the jail, said city BNP president Nazrul Islam.
Earlier, the High Court granted bail to Moniruzzaman, also city BNP general secretary, last week in all three cases pending against him.
On March 23 last, a Khulna court sent Moniruzzaman to jail in two cases filed for attacking police and vandalising vehicles as he appeared before the court and lodged a bail petition.
On June 11, 2015, police pressed charges against 52 leaders and activists of the BNP-led 20-party alliance, including the suspended KCC mayor, in the two cases.
On November 2, 2015, the government suspended BNP-supported KCC Mayor Moniruzzaman Moni as he had been charged with criminal offences.
