Syed Ashraf tells of fraud of Destiny, 13 other coop societies

The Destiny Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited has defrauded the public of Tk 1448 crore 78 lakh 73,952.
LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Syed Ashraful Islam informed Parliament of this on Sunday, replying to a question from ruling party MP M Israfil Alam.Syed Ashraf said that apart from Destiny, 13 other Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited companies had similarly stolen funds that include Popular Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited that had defrauded Tk 7 crore 60 lakh 83,000, Agrani Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited with Tk 5 crore 73 lakh 43,923 and Maxim Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited that had stolen Tk 1 crore 1 lakh 26,091 from the people.
The other Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited companies named by the minister were Gosail Danga Futonto Koli Multipurpose Society Limited, Jagrata Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited, Chittagong Newspaper Hawkers Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited, Dobhashi Bazar Businessmen Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited, Chamuduria Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited, Rupali Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited, Shaharasti Youth Development Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited, Faridganj Prodeep Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited, Fareast Islami Savings and Credit Cooperative Society Limited and Al Insaf Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited.
Syed Ashraf said that Destiny and some other multipurpose cooperative society tarnished the reputation of the country’s Cooperatives arena through microcredit programmes embezzling public funds. He also said that steps are being taken against the officials and employees for their negligence of duty. – UNB
