Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Tuesday provided Rs 50,000 as compensation to a Bangladeshi national who was stripped and tortured by the BSF men along a border here over two years ago. Commandant Johar Ronaldo, commanding officer of BSF Battalion-130, handed over the cheque to Habibur Rahman Habu at a commanding officer level flag meeting in the morning. Commanding officer of Rajshahi Border Guard Bangladesh Battalion-37 Lieutenant Colonel Nazim Uddin led the BGB delegation at the meeting. Johar Ronaldo said departmental action was taken against the BSF members involved in the incident. One of them was sentenced to 28 days’ imprisonment while another demoted, he said. On December 9, 2011, BSF members from Kaharpara camp arrested Habibur Rahman Habu while entering the Indian territory to bring cattle. – UNB
