Speakers at a function in Gaibandha Friday stressed the need for turning the hands of the unemployed youths into working ones to build a poverty, hunger and unemployment free enriched nation. “The youths will have to come forward to receive trainings on different technical trades including computer operating, information communication technology, fish culture, poultry farming, tailoring, electrical and nursery establishment to be self reliant,” they said. They made the comments while addressing a discussion meeting on the celebration of National Youth Day-2013 jointly organized by district administration and Department of Youth Development (DYD) in the auditorium of Zila Parishad (ZP) of the town in the morning. Deputy Commissioner M. Jahurul Islam Rohel addressed the function as the chief guest and superintendent of police M. Shajid Hussain and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Kamal Uddin Biswas were
present as the special guests. With deputy director of DYD Gias Uddin Ahmed in the chair, the meeting was also addressed, among others, by Sadar UNO Mamunur Rashid, assistant director of DYD Abdur Razzak, vice president of Gaibandha Press Club Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman, project manager of SKS Foundation Modasseruzzaman Milu, self dependent woman Kohinoor Begum and successful youth Zillur Rahman. Speaking on the occasion, DC M. Jahurul Islam Rohel said as the youths represent one third of the country’s population and they are the main forces in nation building and national and individual development are not possible without their active participation in productive and constructive activities. In this context, the DC urged the youths to receive training on different technical trades to engage themselves in income generating activities to build a hunger, poverty and illiteracy free secular modern Bangladesh. Later, the guests distributed the cheques for Tk 90 thousand and certificates to the youths and youth organisations of Sadar upazila in the district. Earlier, a big colorful rally led by DC M. Jahurul Islam Rohel was brought out from Independence Square. The rally ended on the premises of the ZP after parading the main roads of the town at around 9.45 am.
