Two decades of BD hill districts peace treaty celebrated

Khagrachhari, Dec 01 – Two decade of the Chittagong Hill Tracts peace accord was celebrated here in Khagrachhari with the colourful programme. Khagrachhari Hill District Council (KHDC) was organized day long programme to celebrate two decade of CHT accord.

The days first programme started with colourful rally at around 9.00am. Thousands people including men, women and children’s of different religious groupstook part in the rally wearing traditional dresses. The rally started from KHDC premises and ended at town hall premises with placing of floral wreath at the statue of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
People were dancing on the roads of hill town and singing song welcoming two decade of CHT accord and showing different types of festoons, banners included those on development works in the hills. They also chantined slogans to welcome Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for signing peace accord that ensured peace and development in CHT.
Earlier, lawmaker from Khagrachhari constituency delivered his speech welcoming people, who thronged KHDC premises as a part of CHT accord celebration.
Government has almost implemented CHT accord except some clauses but it has good intention and government would implement CHT accord fully, Kujendra Lal Tripura said.
Government already done huge development at all stages in Khagrachhari Hill District and peace has already come to the hills and would continue, he added.
He said government has special attention to CHT development activities and government wants every people in CHT to live in peace and have prosperity, he added.
Khagrachhari Hill District Council Chairman Konjori Chowdhury, Khagrachhari army region Commander Abdul Motaleb Sajjad Mahmud, Deputy Commissioner Md Rashedul Islam, Superintendent of Police Ali Ahmed Khan, Khagrachhari Zone Commander GM Sohag, Khagrachari Bar Association President Advocate Ashutosh Chakma, KHDC member Juwel Chakma, Nigar Sultana, Mongshiprue Chowdhury Apu, Shatorupa Chakma, District Corruption Prevention Committee President Sudarsan Dutta, Khagrachhari Press Club President Jiten Barua and all government officials were present among others.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was scheduled to talk to civil society and prominent citizens of Khagrachhari at around on Friday evening through video conference. Deputy Commissioner Md Rashedul Islam organised the programme at his conference hall.
Mentionably, the government signed CHT accord with leading ethnic forum Parbatta Chattagram Jana Sanghity Samity (PCJSS) on December 02, 1997. – Our Correspondent
