Two suspected drug traders killed in Kushtia ‘gunfights’

Kushtia, Oct 31 – Two suspected drug traders were killed in separate incidents of reported gunfights between two groups of criminals in Sadar and Doulatpur Upazilas early Wednesday. Acting on secret information that two groups of ‘drug peddlers’ were exchanging bullets, a team of police went to Kaburhat Madrasha Para in Sadar Upazila around 2 am, said Nasir Uddin, officer-in-charge of Kushtia Model Police Station.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire to police, forcing them to fire back in self-defence.
Later, police recovered an unidentified man, injured with bullets and took him to Kushita General Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
One foreign pistol and 800 pieces of Yaba tablets were recovered from the spot, the OC added.
In another incident, a team of police conducted a drive at Muslimnagar Field in Daulatpur Upazila where a group of criminals were exchanging bullets, said Shah Dara, officer-in-charge of Daulatpur Police Station.
The criminals managed to flee the scene sensing the presence of the law enforcers.
Later, police recovered the body of Madan, 45, son of Rifaz Uddin of Jamal village in the Upazila, and a listed drug trader.
Madan was wanted in a number of cases. Police also recovered one pistol, three bullets, 900 pieces of Yaba tablets and 30 bottles of Phensidyl from the spot. – UNB
