Dhaka – Convicted businessman Yaba king Amin Huda, who was sentenced to 79 years imprisonment in connection with the biggest haul of Yaba tablets cases, failed to secure bail from the High Court on Monday.The vacation bench of the HC comprising Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akondo dropped two bail petitions of Amin Huda from its cause list as the after Attorney General Mahbubey Alam opposed the bail prayers in the cases.
“Amin Huda cannot get released from jail following the High Court order,” the chief law officer of the state told reporters, after the HC order.
However, Advocate Abdul Baset Majumder, counsel for Huda, said that his client would move before another bench of the High Court seeking bail in the cases, after reopening of the High Court from its ongoing summer vacation.
The HC will reopen on May 7.
Huda was arrested in 2007 along with an accomplice from Gulshan and Rapid Action Battalion later busted one of his dens in the area, recovering around one and a half lakh Yaba tablets, materials and machineries to produce the pill from there.
Police filed two cases with the Gulshan Police Station against him and his partner in crimes for manufacturing and selling the drugs.
On July 15, 2012, the Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 of Dhaka sentenced 79 years of rigorous imprisonment to Amin Huda and his partner Ahsanul Haque Hasan in connection with the cases.
On February 11, 2013, the HC granted bail to the businessman for six months on health ground.
On May 5, the same year (2013), following two government petitions, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court cancelled Amin Huda’s HC bail and directed him to surrender before the trial court.
On June 2, 2013, a Dhaka court sent Amin Huda to jail rejecting his bail petition after his surrender. – Staff Reporter
